BIOFUELS ANALYSIS
CRIAM Laboratories measure and radiocarbon analyze the percentage of biogenic carbon in your biofuels as well as those of your suppliers. Our engineers provide a complete review on solid, liquid and gaseous samples. To ensure the quality of our examinations, CIRAM uses ASTM D6866 and EN 16640:2017 standards for AMS radiocarbon analysis of biofuels.
The biogenic carbon content of your biofuels
The quality of biofuels is increasingly monitored, CIRAM measures and verifies the blends of your fuels and biofuels as well as those of your suppliers in order to certify the presence of biogenic carbon in liquid, solid and gaseous products.
CIRAM detects the quality of your fuels
Biofuels and other bio-based fuels (gaseous, liquid or solid), unlike fossil fuels, are carbon neutral. Thanks to carbon-14 (or radiocarbon) analysis, CIRAM laboratories detect and quantify the presence of biomass products in your fuels.
CIRAM has specialized in radiocarbon (or carbon-14) analysis since 2005. This is a primary study to define the quality of biofuels. For example, to obtain bioethanol certification (SP95-E10), the fuel can contain up to 10 th biobased products.
An accurate and complete analysis of your fuels with CIRAM
Carbon-14 analyses provide reliable results on the renewable content of your biofuels. This data is essential from the R&D phase to the finished product. Carbon-14 (radiocarbon) dating is the only simple and reliable analytical technique to measure the biobased fraction versus the fossil fraction of biofuels.
CIRAM laboratories, a complete service for your biofuels
CIRAM laboratories are the European leader in radiocarbon (or carbon 14) dating and analysis. They offer:
- Measurement of your fuel samples to define the percentage of bio-based products and the percentage of fossil products;
- Analysis of all types of biofuels: solid, liquid and gas;
- Measurement of stable carbon and nitrogen isotopes that provide information on the origin of the biomass used to make biofuels;
- Results in less than 10 days;
- A team of researchers and state-of-the-art equipment to analyze and interpret the results.
Current methods and standards for quality analysis
In order to deliver quality expertise and analysis of your biofuels, CIRAM uses the ASTM D6866 method. This globally recognized standard allows us to measure the biobased product content of your fuel. From a liquid, solid or gaseous sample, our engineers perform a carbon-14 (or radiocarbon) analysis of your biofuel to define the percentage of biogenic carbon and fossil products.
CIRAM also complies with the European standard EN 16640, which specifies the method for determining bio-based carbon for industrial products. This standard attests to the quality of the analytical techniques whether by liquid scintillation counter (LSC) or particle gas pedal coupled mass spectrometry (AMS).
CIRAM, the undisputed leader in laboratory fuel analysis
CIRAM Laboratories measure, verify, and certify the presence of biobased carbon in your fuels and biofuels using AMS radiocarbon analysis (ASTM D6866). Our teams of scientists deliver an analysis in 10 business days maximum.
